Technology Services is thrilled to announce a major upgrade to our campus network infrastructure with the introduction of WiFi 6e! Partnering with Cisco and Trace3, this cutting-edge technology promises to revolutionize how we connect and interact with our digital resources. The Wi-Fi Upgrade Project will upgrade wireless connectivity for all buildings across Spelman College. As our community continues to grow, so does the demand for a high performance and secure WIFI network to facilitate the need to support learning, research and administrative support.

 

Key Benefits of the WiFi 6e Upgrade:

  1. Faster Speeds: WiFi 6e is designed to deliver quicker downloads, improved streaming, and lag-free online experiences.
  2. High Capacity: With its expanded spectrum, WiFi 6e can simultaneously accommodate a significantly higher number of connected devices, making it ideal for our densely populated campus environment.
  3. Reduced Interference: By operating in the less congested 6 GHz frequency band, WiFi 6e minimizes interference from neighboring networks, providing a more reliable and consistent connection.
  4. Improved User Experience: Residential students will receive an improved wireless experience with the ability to securely connect devices such as Amazon Alexa and Google Home.

Implementation Details:

Technology Services is installing over 600 new WiFi 6e access points across the campus, ensuring comprehensive coverage in all buildings, classrooms, offices, and common areas. This extensive upgrade is estimated to be completed by August 2023. During this transition period, intermittent network disruptions may occur, but we will strive to minimize any inconvenience. Below is a tentative schedule for when WiFi 6e is coming to your building.
